Laurie was one of my very closest friends at Roxboro and HHS, and one of the very few classmates with whom I’d been in continuous contact since '68. Her thirty-plus  years as an editor at Princeton University Press fulfilled her dream of “having a job where I can get paid to read books.” Blindingly smart and wickedly funny, she leaves behind two children, several grandchildren and many precious memories.

Laurie was exceptional in so many ways. I remember getting to ride on the back of her Lambretta scooter all the way to Lake Pymatuning. We talked TS Eliot and The Beatles, voyaged to Montreal for Expo on our own, and got to see the ballet "Jewels" at Tanglewood. The smartest and kindest one of all!

Fond memories of many many evenings gathering with friends at Laurie's house. Hours spent talking, laughing, playing music and just spending time together with our slightly offbeat circle of friends.

I would not have been the same person without Laurie - what a wonder she was.  Through junior high school and high school, my frequent visits to Oberlin to see her, and later when we remade our friendship via email, Laurie held a very special place for me.  There are very few who gave me so much.

I knew Laurie best in junior high, where I remember that in Ms Rupp's English class, she never took notes and it was hard to say anything to her because she was concentrating so hard (on what the teacher said?  On what she was going to write?)  Laurie was so bright, and so kind.  It was the era of fandom for the Beatles, and Laurie would write a story for each of her friends and how they would meet the Beatle of their  choice and how they had a romance.  And the stories were long and lovely, and it was just one way that her kindness to her friends shone through.

It is so wonderful to see all the comments about Laurie from my Roxboro friends! I was always in awe of her brilliance and her shy kindness to everyone. Elaine, you beat me to the story about our shared Beatlemania. All the girls waited with great anticipation for "our" personal Beatles love story to be brought to school.  They were hand-written, of course, on notebook paper, both sides, and each one was a little different than the ones before. I think I actually kept mine for years. I'm so glad that several of you kept in touch with her after high school, and I thank you, David, for bringing us up to date about her career. What a perfect job for her!
