Johnny was a much loved member of the Columbus community. He had many good friends, was a community volunteer, and was instrumental in the organizing of the Columbus Community Festival.
John was a great person. In high school he was one of the first true "hippies" I ever met. He spent time in San Francisco and when he returned he sat behind me in home room telling me stories about San Francisco during those years. Little did I know that our paths would cross in Columbus years later and we would share a house with others doing community work. He was a good friend, a kind man, and is missed by many in Columbusl
I knew John in our much younger years-he lived on Miramar/Washington Boulevard. He was a frequent visitor to Bill Schur's home and was always a kind, decent and fun kid who was always up for a great time. As we got older, we did not keep in contact-for no particular reason-our lives just went in different directions. I have wonderful memories of John in our elementary school years and extend my condolences to his family and friends.
I am saddened to learn of Johnny's death. I grew up next door to him on Miramar. He attended Gesu Parish School through the eighth grade and then St. Ignatius High School before transferring to Heights. I knew nothing of him living in San Francisco. Presumably I would have learned that information from his mother or siblings, whom I encountered almost daily through the years we were growing up together. He was a gentle soul and a good friend.
