I have very few memories of High School, but as soon as I saw Debra's picture, I knew who she was. I don't think we had really crossed paths except I believe we both were office aids in 11th grade and became friendly. That year I unexpectly got invited to the senior prom and so did she. We both ended up buying the same dress but in different colors. It was fun sharing the experience with her. I'm sorry our paths didn't cross more after that. May her memory be a blessing.

I have carried this fondest memory of Debbie. We were in the same homeroom at Wiley. It was during the Cuban Missile crisis, or thereabouts, when we were going through nuclear bomb drills. These drills consisted of having us standing behind our open locker doors, which certainly would have given us maximum protection! I remember Debbie and I reaching our hands out at the same time. Here we were, two scared 12-year olds facing the prospect of nuclear annihilation, holding each others hand in comfort. Somehow, 63 years later I remember that tender moment in an era that was fraught with terror. That memory has always been a blessing and something that has always stayed with me. Thank you, Debbie. We could all use a little comforting still.

Debbie was a teacher at Millridge Elementary in Highland Hts where my kids went to school. She always had a smile and a hello as we passed each other in the halls. I would also greet her and her sister at the local craft shows.
